Pratchett's politics burn blazingly bright. He was a man who cared *fiercely*, despised injustice, and refused to confuse politeness with goodness. Indeed, I can summarize his politics in one sentence: “Sin, young man, is when you treat people as things.”

“You have one remaining wish.” “Summon a hydra in the middle of my enemy’s fortress, but one with so many heads that any new heads will be crushed immediately, creating an ever-expanding mass of hydra heads that will destroy the entire stronghold.” “You mean…?” “Yes. A hydra-djinn bomb.”

This pattern where people talk shit about Bluesky trust and safety head Aaron Rodericks, and I'm like "come on, there's no way he could be that bad". And then they show me the posts of Bluesky trust and safety head Aaron Rodericks, and I'm like "I need to get as far away from this site as possible"

given the recent posting of the official strikes rules, I'd like to copy-paste my own version from a tumblr post I made the other day: Social media is simple: everyone gets three strikes before you're banned, you don't know how many strikes you're on, and trans women start with two strikes.

I'm still sad that the Steam Controller didn't go with the name I was hoping for. It would really have solved all of this "new Steam Controller vs old Steam controller" confusion.

I have a sandwich topology question. A Dagwood sandwich is large along the Y axis. A submarine sandwich is large along the Z axis (you eat it end-on). What is large along the X axis? A sub rotated 90° doesn't count. Think corn on the cob; you don't eat it end-on. Does an X axis sandwich exist?

It continues to be whiplash-inducing to read the Internet Archive official account posting, correctly, about problems with AI, and then turn around and hear their own chairman boosting AI as the solver of all of life's woes... Why can Tech never have nice things? Just being good without caveats?

I also love when you have someone who *is* a mutual follow that you don't expect. Every once in a while just getting a jumpscare fave from someone you really admire, reminding you that they also see all your *other* posts and choose (correctly) not to fave those.

Begging cis people not to press the button that makes children kill themselves. “But it’s such a pretty button,” they protest, sweat pouring down their face from the effort of not pushing it. “It looks like so much fun to press.” Dead children, we remind them. “...what kind of children?” they ask.

Not just DLSS, or AI, but the last, like, half dozen major Tech trends have been this double-wrong marketing. The tech is bad, and doesn't do the job. But also even if it did, that job it's being sold for _is also bad_. And it's important to push both, and not let a focus on one concede the other.
