A bit over a year ago I was introduced to the thriving trans indie/self-publishing scene. What I didn't realize at the time is how this would lead to me finding a wonderful new community and really motivate me to work on my transition. For #TDoV I thought I'd highlight some of my favourites:

tags are only worth using if 1. accurate tagging does not invite harassment by moderators/paypros 2. inaccurate tagging can be remedied quickly and painlessly the downstream result of anti-NSFW policies as a result of paypros is that NSFW content will simply not tag itself as self-preservation

Complicated feelings this #TDoV, my first as an out trans woman. My experiences over the past year have been almost universally neutral-to-positive, some people have been kind and supportive and most just don't care. But.

How can therapy be regulated as an evidence based therapeutic intervention if therapists have a First Amendment right to say anything to any client? If therapy can't be regulated as a therapeutic intervention, why would insurance pay for it any more than it pays for newspaper subscriptions?

Between the conversion therapy ruling and the efforts to ban kids from the internet to “protect them” from “transgender influence,” we’re right back in a culture of violently enforced closeting. And the data around self-identifying as trans and queer already reflects this

This is heinous. Querelle does great work, and the puritanical policies here come down extremely hard on queer creatives. I haven't read the blahaj story yet, but it looks extremely cute! Please consider giving it a look!

I think it's actually essential to children's moral development to be exposed to short stories moderately beyond their reading level where a bunch of fucked up shit happens and then instead of offering a moral lesson or any sort of emotional or narrative resolution it just ends.

People born today will never understand how aggressive some dudes were in the 2000s about needing to eat bacon to feel masculine. They'd make it their entire lifestyle & this was just one of the default types of guys that you'd encounter. Running into a "bacon guy" was just a normal part of life.

This probably isn't going to change people's minds, but sometimes it is easier to evoke sympathy for dogs than it is to evoke sympathy for trans folks. Giving money to J.K.Rowling is the same as giving money to eradicate transgender people.

I am, tragically, behind on RCBG, but what I *have* read is an incredibly pointed satire of the most terminally-online brainworms, embodied in characters who you will want to scream at *and* comfort. It's hilarious, and cutting, and cares a lot. I'm so excited to read this!

What's really going on here is twofold. First, the anti-trans "reporters" on this issue do not know their own beat. As I've said before, the anti-trans argument is a conspiracy theory. It posits that the medical field is handing out surgeries to kids at the slightest hint of gender nonconformity.

The NYT is being disingenuous here. The AMA has *always* said that gender-affirming surgeries should generally be reserved for adults. That's part of why so few kids get them! The AMA reiterated this position and the NYT is characterizing it as a policy change. It's not.

Just finished "Name Her Holy" by @clericofthevoid.bsky.social and enjoyed it! Not all of it landed for me, but the world building is intriguing and I'm very curious where the plot is going, now that it's had time to build a very interesting foundation.

Something I didn't really get before I transitioned is how much *fun* body language can be! And not just, like, big gestures. All the little ways you present yourself to the world? They're largely things you *choose* and you can do *whatever you want* with them!

I have noticed a general trend on here where trans women are treated as “guilty until proven innocent.” Katelyn is a long time friend & colleague who has a track record on trans rights that has positively influenced US politics. She is one of our best advocates. We should read her in good faith

A Little Vice is one of the stories that got me back into writing and is one of the big inspirations for Revenant Rose, and These Rainy Autumn Nights made me sob for the same reasons TV Glow did. Stupidly poignant work that deserves more recognition.

A Little Vice is the story that got me into transfem fiction in the first place, and is still a go-to re-read for me. If you want a really good trans magical girl story that examines just how depression and dysphoria can turn us against ourselves then definitely give it a look!

You misunderstand. I said it's much better than most people tend to give it credit for; I didn't say it's GOOD.

I'm in Canada, so perhaps my experience isn't universal, but despite being doused in anti-trans rhetoric from the US (and, of course, some home-grown) most people here *do not care* that I'm a visibly trans woman out and about, living her life. Of people who *do* care, most are supportive.

Anti-trans obsession isn't complicated, guys. They think trans people are icky and "unnatural". Everything else is a post facto justification adapted to provide the desired conclusion, to convince themselves as much as anyone else that it's not just the base revulsion they subconsciously know it is.
