At long last I've wrapped on The Persephone Effect and it was a triumph of narrative. You would never think it was the middle book of a trilogy; the beats hit and don't stop hitting.

Zeus, my girl. She's so fucking crass. All five of her fucks happen in rapid succession in HC ch4, all for derision and emphasis ("you fucking fool," "I'll unfuck this," etc) However, shoutout to The Zeus Constant where we see more of her and she gets to say it SO much. The best fuck in the city.

Done. The Persephone Effect is yet another triumph of narrative labyrinth. The stakes are high. My heart broke so many times reading this book. The world-building is just so fucking brilliant and ever expansive. The prose are fruits fresh from the garden. 5/5 A perfect hellstorm of loving pain.

This kind of thing drives illiteracy btw. Contemporary texts are important but everything is in conversation with what came before. Art is always a remix. It's important to understand how that works, how culture and context, how war and injustice shape storytelling.
