I don't quite put my essays through peer review, but I think people see my final output and don't see the hours of reading, reviewing, sending it to friends---several of whom are academics and transfeminists---revising, plus the arguing and refining rhetoric behind it all. It's not off the dome.

It's absolutely vital, if you are writing humanities or social sciences or theory, to have friends you trust to both value your project and tear your writing to shreds. Like, it's actually very good to game out the obvious responses and critiques. "What will R2 say?" is a 10/10 editing trick.

Hate that part of being a writer where I have to get home after work and actually write stuff despite being exhausted instead of just having words materialize fully formed for me.
