The general decline (with honourable exceptions) of film and TV lighting is another of those things where, you know, the fact that there're always people who say something's getting worse doesn't mean the thing cannot, sometimes, get worse in truth.

As someone who's worked in TV/film post the past 11 years, Josh isn't full of it BUT there's a much simpler reason for the "lighting looks bad now" trend the past 10 years. In post, you're creating a digital intermediate that has to look serviceable on phones, tablets, laptops & TVs now.

I've read/watched a lot about this topic because it drives me crazy and a few reasons come up often: * Shorter timelines = less time lighting. * Shooting digital allows them more latitude to correct in post, but that doesn't make it look *good*. * LED lights don't reproduce classic Fresnel lighting.
