The knowingly "retro" aesthetics in Go for It, Nakamura! are quite effective. Unfortunately it is still a milquetoast modern rom-com.

With the news of Speed Racer coming back to the cinema, I realised today that the reason I was so underwhelmed by it was because this came out a week earlier in 2008.

I guess "whatever happened to Mamiko Ikeda (screenwriter on Atashin'chi, Sgt Frog etc)?" is a question I will ask repeatedly throughout my life without remembering the answer (moved to Italy, apparently).

At Toru Hirose's flashback now and it'd further driving home that not only is this a better version of Y3, it's also where the series starts again.

aww, darn. So the "tulpa" (as used since the 1970s) is actually derived from the Theosophical writings of Annie Besant and the gullibility/whimsy of Alexandra David-Neel rather than from actual Tibetan Buddhism. (Mikles & Laycock, "Tracking the Tulpa," Nova Religio v19n1 (Aug 2015):87-97)

Three nights of sleeping with earplugs and three mornings of waking up after 0730. So I think it's safe to say it was my neighbour leaving for work pre-0600 that was waking me up at obscenely early hours.

Forgot how fun the fights vs the 2017 NJPW roster are in Yakuza 6. Makes me wish RGG tried their hands at a proper wrestling game.

This is good to hear, as the last season ended on a nice, original beat that made me wonder if they hadn't been renewed.

Whoops. Went to check something in the Golden Kamuy manga and ended up reading the entire finale again. The way a certain character's survival is revealed right at the end is so delightful.

Yakuza 6 is a good re-play as the layers of irony in the script come through stronger when you know what secrets people are hiding. Coming straight off of Kiwami 3, it's just strengthening my feelings that 6 is doing what 3 was attempting, but with much more competence.

Doing a fairly sedate replay of Yakuza 6 due to the new ending of Kiwami 3. I'd be getting along a lot faster if Maron the cat ever decided to spawn in.

As another middle aged man whose brain frequently forgets it's contained in a middle aged body, I am glad I am not committing my hubris and vanity to celluloid in the way Dwayne Johnson does.

That Jo Amon fight in Kiwami 3 is too long. But thankfully not hard, so you are likely to only have your time wasted once. The other, new Amon fight is much better and the challenge level is pitched much better.

Not only does the Dark Ties Survival Hell and Brawler Hell modes have the most evidence that Sujimon are in fact real, an actual wizard shows up.

Kiwami 3's changes to the end of Yakuza 3 are fine when you bear in mind that it is in a sequence of: 0, K1, 6, K2, LAD, Man Who, IW, Pirate Yakuza, K3 It is not in a sequence of: 0, K1, K2, K3, 4, 5, 6 etc.

Aggrevated the muscles I hurt falling up the stairs of the theatre last week. You would think at my age that I would have learnt to take it easy after a fall, but my brain is frequently acting like my body is still in its early twenties despite all the evidence to the contrary.

Trying to remember why exactly I had called a Mr. Tawky Tawny / Paddington Bear mashup character I was planning to use in my superhero RPG campaign "Waltham Cross"? It's a train station, but why did I pick that one?

Must resist turning this Kitacon event into another stats based project - the increased number of police-based anime over time is not something unique to anime or Japan. Charting that explosion would involve far too big a data set for a panel designed to show clips of Mad Bull and Global Astroliner.

I do appreciate that One Piece is in the "just put a wig/hair dye on" camp for de-aging actors in flashbacks. We're already going along with enough on the show that we can easily briefly accept Clive Russell playing much younger than 80.
