There's a dark triad for predatory scammer types: refusing to pay their bills; constantly name-dropping and social-climbing in pursuit of new marks; escalating depravity as if in an attempt to see if there's anything they can't get away with. The problem is that millions of Americans are like this.

Weird living through the "does the US really need soft power in order to have all the things it wants?" experiment because the outcome is very obvious and yet they're running the experiment anyway

Susan Ciani is a real pioneer of electronic music. She was using a Buchla synthesizer similar to those Morton Subotnick used, but was much more concerned with how simple sequencers could make long form, constantly evolving pieces of shimmering complexity.

oh Marco, don't worry, you're only going to the 3rd or 4th circle of hell. you'll disembowel yourself and eat your entrails once a day - no more than twice. worst case scenario 30-40 minutes being drowned in a trough of human excrement boiling at one trillion degrees. the rest of the day is yours!

The Social Life of Small Urban Spaces. Think of a proto-John Wilson documentary about how people use plazas. It's a short film based on a scientific survey about what makes a used, and therefor GOOD public space and how to make them better. All of the glory of urban living in 50 minutes or so

I’m the opposite of stagestruck (& have minus acting talent anyway) but if I were an actor I’d want Mary Woronov’s career, just doing my cult films & sometimes getting to send up Hollywood romantic conventions by being onscreen-married to my gay best friend.

It's not every day that a holy grail makes its way to physical media and that's what happened today thanks to AGFA and us at OCN. I first saw Joe Dante's THE MOVIE ORGY at MoMA in 2013 with Dante in person and it absolutely blew my mind. I wrote about it back then and that essay is included here.

My buddy's dad was a Federal judge. People who would know said he was brilliant. One day he took us for Slurpees. Couldn't figure out how to pour them. Keeps asking the guy, whose English wasn't great. Keeps repeating "Yes, but how does one..." Guy hears a number, thinks he's asking about price.

Always remember this was the fruit of decades of activism by Black Montgomerians. A few years back I wrote about the 1944 Montgomery voter registration drive, which involved or affected many key figures of the Bus Boycott and created a small area of Black political power in Montgomery, pre-Boycott.
