Having pulled my hamstring playing baseball, that quote from Trea isn't surprising at all. You feel a lot better pretty quickly, you can go about 75%, but you have this nagging feeling that you shouldn't push your leg too far. So, negotiating that will be the issue.

She’s gone. I was holding her hand and told her whatever she needed was ok and a moment later she stopped breathing 💔 Thank you all for the kind words earlier, I’m just so devastated and at a loss how this even happens.

Autistic people are incredibly more likely to suffer physical, financial and sexual abuse, but the only times NTs bring up "Autism" and "abuse" in the same sentence is to reiterate "Autism isn't an excuse to do X or Y" as if that's something we all claim.

One of the leading causes of death in Autistic people is suicide and, still, the already minimal investment in research about us is about "How To Make Everyone Else Not Have To Deal With Us."

Any course of action regarding how to handle Autism should be led (overwhelmingly) by Autistic adults. Not by random people who don't even know what autism is; not by NT parents, as hard as their life is with all the unpaid labour and crushed dreams.

But Obama changed over time. He nominated Ari Ne'eman, the co-founder of the Autistic Self-Advocacy Network, to to the National Council on Disability, and fought when Ari's nomination was blocked. He also nominated John Marble, another autistic person. Soon, Obama's language around autism changed.

It's wild. He's very, very good at deflecting bullshit, leading, getting people on the same page. I'm old enough to remrmber football people fetishizing leadership, but people just need to put numbers on *everything* now.

Correct. And it might've been worth it to actually totally defeat Germany, as opposed to accepting the armistice. I am aware that moght've cost hundreds of thousands of lives. But if you could avoid WWII... Probably not feasible, politically.

Here’s Ryan Howard’s 56th home run in 2006. Like Kyle Schwarber, he hit 55 and 56 on the same night and against the Marlins.

A) great choice, wonderful book. B) where to even begin? Let's go Rafuse's McClellan's War. All about how trying to win the Civil War without destroying the institution of slavery just didn't work. Rafuse was Joe Harsh's student, and you really must read his book on Lee's invasion of MD too.

Luzardo and Vicente Padilla. 44s totally unalike in dignity. And yet Vicente got a flotilla. I'm trying to say a lot of people should go to the ballpark dressed as Jesus when Luzardo starts. We could do resurrections when he gets out of jams, turn water into wine, and the like. Much fun to be had

This is such a nuanced and big-hearted piece on the evolution of autism as a diagnosis, by an anthropologist of mental health who is also the dad of a now-grown daughter on the spectrum. Great reading (gift link)

calling autism a “tragedy” and saying that there should be fewer autistic people are eugenicist talking points. Everyone who opposes such views also needs to recognize the ways in which everyday ableism left the door wide open for a person like RFK Jr.

What is super weird here is that
@npr.org
has a *long* standing history of ignoring Autistic people to shill for Autism Speaks … But even Autism Speaks says that RFK Jr. is dangerous and full of shirt. While this is consistent (bad) Autism reporting for
@NPR.org
, This is a new low by far.
