Generally speaking I find when the players of games say the game has a ‘good story’ it means they vaguely want to know what happens next which drives them through whatever game business they have to do, and when they say it’s ’good writing’ they usually mean the writing flatters the player char

Every time somebody defends PC death in RPGs by comparison to other storytelling, I want to throw things. Nobody in a novel/movie EVER dies randomly. Might be random in-story, but the writer made a conscious decision about it. They didn't just roll dice. (Maybe a few people have done that, dunno.)
