When the House Hippo first appeared on Canadian televisions, it seemed that everyone wanted one to appear in their homes. This commercial became a part of the Canadian cultural landscape and even today, the House Hippo is beloved by Canadians. 🧵 1/10

Yes Gmail, you're so right, I really needed a 'summarize this email with AI' option on a two-sentence out-of-office reply.

A friend included this anti-acknowledgement section on her PhD thesis. She also added the proposition: “Systematic bullying and undermining of girls and women in STEM starts early on and is the reason why they do not stay in science and related fields.” Absurd we still need to go through this 🧪👩🔬

This is amazing: Pillsbury has finally given up and started pasteurizing the flour in their raw cookie dough because they know people are going to eat it raw even if they say not to

As an editor I have the 'pleasure' of reading multiple clinical manuscripts each week. Content is key, there is no getting around this. But content needs to structured in an easily accessible way for the reader to engage... Is this called a "skeetorial"? Anyway, here we go. 🧪

It's always worth remembering how academia's reliance on Google Scholar is totally unsustainable, since Google doesn't make a dime on the product and (as such) it's maintained by like two and a half engineers on nights and weekends

One year, a student fed all of his lab reports through Grammarly to get suggestions on how to avoid over-used words. It told him he used the word "atom" too much and should replace it with "bit" or "morsel." Also the flame-test lab used the word "flame" too much, so it suggested "sweetheart."

My favourite fact about Iceland is that we have many, many crime writers but only one forensic pathologist, and he was so busy answering all of their questions that he decided to have a small seminar for writers to get some peace. It immediately sold out so he had another one that also sold out.
