Been getting asked about tooltips a lot at work lately and now I can't stop finding useless tooltips. Like this one from Google Drive.

The really astounding thing is the complete lack of self-awareness of just posting this out there for everyone to see.

Iām tired of being told Iām a badass for doing things despite being in pain, or a wimp for needing medication, or that I have ālegitimateā reasons to need it, unlike āfakersā. I am tired of people having an opinion on my pain other than āhow can I help?ā

Was afraid the new old stock cassette I recorded earlier was defective (itās about 45 years old!), turns out there was a cat hair trapped in it in such a way that it caused occasional dropouts. š„“

And formally provably so because to drive you need theory of mind. You can indeed show with maths the limits of maths since it's a formal engineered system with knowable limits, see Gƶdel etc. We created trains which ban humans from tracks so the system can be safely automated, not so for roads. 1/n

I really hope people advocating to ban kids from SM read this. Some kids are isolated by disabilities or circumstances. Furthermore, some kids grow up in abusive households. āIdeally, a childās exposure to online worlds should be moderated by their parentsā isnāt a reassuring sentiment for everyone

TIL about "AI abstinence", I think it's like "spork avoidance" or "car crash shunning". Embrace sporks, they're inevitable! Don't get left behind and crash your car today!

Itās fascinating how many software people I looked up to got sucked into the AI thing and its various incantations so completely that they automatically (autonomously?) are white knights for companies that lie and do bad shit. Like why in the fuck would you feel the need to defend Waymo?

Iām fully convinced that when the Mars landing nears theyāll first send a ship full of South Asian workers, probably children, to prep the landing site and construct buildings and they wonāt make them count as first humans on Mars.

Another story for everyone whose dealt with being laid off and told they're being replaced by AI. We're being replaced by people who are paid poorly, and in awful working conditions. This is a problem for all of us, whether we're in the U.S. or the Philippines or any country.

The post-industrial period of a developed economy is characterized by three phases. Until the 2010s, we were in a service economy. Now we are in a scam economy. And we are about to find out what phase comes next.
