OKC are just expert foul grifters. It's not basketball, but I guess it falls in the 'rules.'

Last week, IT employees at the University of California system across the state formed the largest tech worker union in the United States. This is how they now plan to confront tech industry layoffs, rein in AI, and push for tech for the common good:

They just formed the biggest tech worker union in the US. They plan to rein in AI and curb layoffs
"Who AI benefits and who it immiserates often is based on who gets to decide how it’s used. We know how tech is used on the day to day. We should be at the table as well."

If you are in the SF Bay Area and can show me a pneumatic tube system in action (the bigger the better), please get in touch! I am writing a story about a future pneumatic tube system and need to experience how they sound and smell and everything else.

Don't restrict the content they can read or watch. Kids can manage their own tolerance. If they want to watch horror films or read sexy books, let them. (And good luck preventing them from watching porn if they want.)

This week marks the return of Open Streets season in Montreal, featuring some of the best pedestrian streets in North America. It’s a powerful example of what’s possible when we prioritize people over automobiles on even just a small fraction of our streets. 📍 Montreal 🇨🇦

This is Edward. He was given 6 months to live after being found as a stray. His family was determined to give him the best few months possible, so they introduced him to the ice cream truck. That was 27 months ago. 14/10

Teenagers in all societies get delayed sleep phase. Researchers think it’s an evolved mechanism for them to practise partial independence. Historically they’d be hanging out with each other. The nuclear family made them do it alone. Social media has made it communal again.

A friend who was formerly a sr director of UX at a midsize tech firm said the most concerning thing in his 18 month post layoff job search was the lack of questions about how he had grown people and teams - just no interest at all in the human side of management.

Spurs definitely gonna send tape of Hartenstein shenanigans to the League Office after this game.

Someone should tell the Spurs players they don't have the throw the ball around the gym willy-nilly. 17–7 turnover disparity. The Spurs could be ahead if they weren't so careless.

Hartenstein's primary role is to make life difficult for Wemby, and use all 6 of his fouls in the process.

10 turnovers in a quarter-and-a-half of play is not a good luck for the Spurs. OKC only has 3.

Among the many reasons I want OKC to lose, toward the top is that Oklahoma City is a decidedly Republican city (one of the few cities that votes red), and, so, fuck them.

At the risk of getting all LinkedIn here, this is what I've taken away from seeing all these different levels of PM power: 1. A PM's power is proportional to how close they are to the money, or some proxy for the money. Decisions with dollar signs attached to the outcome tend to carry more weight.

TIL I'm not the only one who reflects on the sociocultural specificity of The New York Times Connections. Today, homophones tripped up folks, because accents. For me, in the past, I've blanked on categories that were gendered (e.g., types of bras). It's good to be de-centered every once in a while.
