If the real-world treatment of trans women by the healthcare system was invented for a work of fiction, it would instantly read as an absurdist satire of all the issues with cis women's healthcare. yeah you can get a vagina but only if the doctor thinks he'd want to fuck it afterwards.

I think not enough people understand that the pushback against renewables and EV's is money. Without getting too in the weeds: renewables cannot ever be as profitable as oil and gas. EV's don't make as much money as gas guzzlers. That's it. That's all you really need to know.

International Asexuality Day, so let me talk about one of my least favorite allosexual pastimes: asking why asexual people “need” to talk about our varying levels of desire. Why do YOU need hamburger ads with bikini ladies in? Why do you need Magic Mike? Why is it acceptable for you and not us?

Fascinating to hear house owners continue to claim, in a majority-renter city, that residences for renters do not belong in "residential areas" because those renters will destroy "the character of our neighborhoods." (They also don't want people without yards to live near parks.) It's 1991 for them.

As usual, the NIMBY argument is basically: People who want apartments on bus routes want "unchecked development" (translation: three-to-six-story apartments) and "clearcutting" (allowing people to remove trees from private lawns). Same anti-housing arguments as always, different decade.

So, thing that is apparently better understood inside academia than outside of it: International students pay sticker price. Most domestic students do not. International students are subsidizing the education costs for domestic students, as per student governmental funding drops.

The problems with US government spending priorities are vast and extremely depressing/enraging much of the time. I desperately wish much more was spent on improving people's lives directly, and much less on war. Science spending just isn't really part of that particular equation.

tbh watching cis people get arrested on trans people's behalf is more heartening than I would have realized. It often feels like it's just us, when the going gets tough. If private businesses risk themselves to continue to allow trans people use of the correct restroom, it'll mean a lot too.
