Just a hugely bizarre moment in British politics, as the government casually signs off on the idea that trans people are both dangerous enough that their presence must be constantly policed, but also safe enough for any member of the public to accost.

Obvious point, but underlying the assertion that a member of the public can simply alert staff if they see a Trans™ using the "wrong" toilet is the transphobic assumption that "they can always tell", and that any given cis person can confidently spot potential rule breakers.

I don’t think anything sums up how ridiculous the new EHRC guidance is than the fact it describes those protected by the characteristic of gender reassignment to be those undergoing a process to “reassign their sex”, a thing the exact same part of the document says isn’t legally possible. Nonsense.

This is one of the most egregious examples. Gender reassignment is defined as someone undergoing a process to change their sex yet we are now to believe that no such process has ever existed since sex is based on assigned sex at birth and is immutable bsky.app/profile/mark...

Yet now the government and EHRC want us to believe that all of that was, even at the time the laws were drawn up, in service of the current interpretation of the Equality Act in which trans people must be outed to save the feelings of cis people Again, it won't make sense no matter how hard you try
