The people who wanted you to hate immigrants, Muslims and trans people will never be ‘happy’. There’ll never be a point where they say ‘great! The country is a perfect amount of racist and transphobic!’ They always require a scapegoat. It’s disabled ppl and Sikhs today. Tomorrow it could be you.

its not even what Farage is saying, its the fact there isn't universal derision and disagreement from the people who are meant to keep us safe. They are thinking of not upsetting all the racists in Makerfield who couldn't give a shit about this country anyway

Crucially not the main point in all this trans EHRC stuff but it’s crazy that Labour’s “solution” largely seems to be make underpaid and under respected retail staff play as gender police in their culture war.

most cis people, even the well-meaning ones, are fundamentally incapable of meeting this moment. the transphobia is just too deep. they have to face it, understand it, consciously remove it from themselves. too few do.

The current transphobic moral panic spent years attacking cis women for being too good at their jobs and deciding that they must be men as a result. Where was the common sense when Imane Khelif and Lin Yu-Ting were attacked?

How are Seema Malhotra’s comments not inciting a vigilante toliet police? "Most people have the common sense to step in when necessary, for example when a person of the opposite biological sex enters a single sex facility in error - and when to alert a member of staff."

The House of Commons yesterday debated the laying of the EHRC code of practice. Functionally, it didn’t do very much, there was no opportunity to dis-apply it, but it was an important opportunity to get oppositional voices into the media and build awareness. No Green MPs turned up.

I WROTE THIS! Spider-Noir is the best superhero show of the decade besides maybe Loki. A stylish, engaging, and incredibly fun show that proves what creatives can do when Sony just stays out of the way and lets them cook. Also Nic Cage as Spider-Man BANGS! Go watch all 8 episodes!

The level of evidence needed before a pro-trans policy can be implemented? Infinite. The level of evidence required to get this Labour government to roll back trans people’s rights? Negligible. Why? The Telegraph, BBC and Mail demand hate and the Guardian publishes apologia to justify it:

1. A civil servant who helped draft the GRA confirms that it was intended that trans people count as their acquired sex for all practical purposes and that ideas like 'biological sex' never entered into it. Why didn't the Supreme Court ask for evidence on the intention of the GRA when weakening it?

People who hate out of disgust, will grasp any convincing justification handed to them, regardless whether it's true, moral, or rational. It's difficult to argue against a feeling someone has hidden behind inherited propaganda. Difficult, too, for them to see the person the propaganda has erased.

The reason the UK is a service-oriented, low-investment, low productivity, low wage economy is because of that project to weaken labour. It's not an accident of history, or a moral failing by the British people. It was done by design and there is no plan to change it.

The Milburn report has to be seen in its historic context as the last stage of the central neoliberal project. The Thatcher economic revolution wasn't about deindustrialisation or the City Big Bang (epiphenomena) but about reducing the power of labour relative to capital.

You cant deal with bigotry by agreeing to disagree or live and let live, cause bigots dont just let us live or allow us our truths. Its a belief in progress drained in comfort and a naive belief that humanity always gets better if you just wait long and politely enough
