This pretty much mirrors my thoughts. The principle is "you should write your own words"; this stuff is the fine print.

nuance and specificity are WHY being an organization writing enforceable rules is hard. it doesn't mean you don't have to do it.

Okay, @sfwa.org has now changed the Nebula Award rules for the SECOND time today and will NOT allow LLM usage. SMDH over all this. Get it together, SFWA. I agree with this entire thread. I am deeply disappointed by @sfwa.org 's decision, especially considering how many of its members (including me) had our work stolen for the creation of that generative AI. There is NO way anyone should be eligible for a Nebula without doing ALL the writing themself.

If they're going to award Nebulas for partial LLM-created works then I want a piece of those Nebulas since my work was stolen to create them.

1/2 Apropos of nothing in particular, I guarantee I will never write a piece of fiction with the "help" of a large language model because a) I spent too many years developing skills to just fuck off now, b) I don't plagiarize other authors, whether intentionally or by way of statistical matches.

This article is a disaster and the headline is misleading. Yes, AI should be used to solve our most pressing problems and to handle massive computational analysis. But the problem is not a shortage of ideas. LLMs don’t generate “new” ideas, they parse what has come before.

Anyone who has ever met a writer (especially one with neurodivergent hyperfixations) knows that ideas are free. The tree of ideas is always laden, & there is too much windfall to eat. Maybe pay thoughtful creative people a living wage to act on their ideas instead of letting the echoing box chirp.

the plagaristic nature of Generative AI recycles existing ideas so thoroughly that these are mistaken for new ideas while also discouraging ordinary people from actually coming up with new ideas because some AI will just plagarize them sooner or later with absolutely no consequence or recourse.

This column on Vox is the biggest pile of steaming AI crap I've seen this year. Human's aren't running out of ideas. Instead, those with power and money don't want to listen to ideas that threaten their power and money. Ideas are plentiful. Putting those ideas into action is the hard part.
