The reflecting pool mess started funny but there's absolutely nothing funny about the DOJ securing an indictment of a man for touching a pond because the president made up a conspiracy theory about vandals that it needed to validate. That's totalitarian

Statements from Dems like this one make it harder to press for Supreme Court reform. This ruling was a near-disaster and shows how unhinged SCOTUS has become—now just one vote away from overturning the 14th Amendment. But a sitting senator says they "applaud" the ruling.

My problem with the ratchet argument here is it assumes that the GOP in its current, extreme form is equally likely to win future elections and part of court reform is ensuring eg we restore the VRA and making that less likely to begin with.

Destroying the Voting Rights Act, making Trump a king with almost sovereign power over the executive branch, and letting him turn Congress into little more than a debate club is how Supreme Court minority rule perpetuates minority rule. Court expansion is the bare minimum for restoring democracy

The thing you need to understand is that there are 2 (TWO) different method for amending the constitution 1) The process laid out in the constititon itself (conventions, or 2/3's of both houses followed by 3/4 of states ratifying) OR 2) find five votes on the Supreme Court.

The Supreme Court is an illegitimate institution built on minority rule. 5 of the 6 Republican justices were appointed by presidents who lost the popular vote for their first term and confirmed by senates that Republicans controlled despite Democrats winning more votes and representing more people

See, people always want to make this just about "sports," but the real upshot here is that, 6-3, trans women can't make a claim under the Equal Protection Clause. And if they can't do that, it's hard to see how they have constitutional rights.

I do not think there is sufficient appreciation for how catastrophic yesterday’s decision in Slaughter is for this country. As Justice Sotomayor said in her dissent and she intoned from the bench yesterday, “today the majority reshapes our Govt.”

No, see, "overruled 90 years of precedent in order to expand presidential power" is the way *critics* describe it. *Your* side says: resisting intrusion into core executive functions, protecting the sanctity of the separation of powers, and acknowledging that the precedent has been whittled away.
