This reminds me of a situation that happened when I was in Seattle recently, heading to the airport on the light rails. Drunk guy gets on the train, he's kinda loud and obnoxious, but not bothering anyone. After a few minutes, a transit cop walks over and stands right next to him.

i think if you ride public transit enough you learn that most weird behavior is not dangerous, and conversely i think driving a car teaches you that everyone is trying to kill you at all times

This is very surprising to me. As a pedestrian, I've always found one-way grids much easier to walk. I only need to look one direction, the crossing distance is shorter, I'm not worried about left-turning vehicles hitting me because they're focus on beating an oncoming vehicle...

As someone who has lived my whole adult life in cities deemed “dangerous”—NYC, NOLA, and SF—I think a lot about how dense cities require patience, calm, and tolerance in the midst of social difference, which are of course exactly the civic virtues that the right resents being told to cultivate.

My least popular (and most correct) view is that cars should be automatically limited to the local speed limit. Put the pedal to the floor and you still can't go over 25mph in a residential area. (15 in Manhattan btw)
