Effective with the start of service Monday, January 5, the elevated State/Lake station will close for reconstruction. Riders will still have easy access from the Red Line to the elevated lines.

The State/Lake Loop Elevated station will temporarily close starting Monday, January 5, 2026. Crews will work to replace one of the oldest stations on the CTA rail system with a modern facility designed to improve safety, accessibility, and comfort for all riders.

When the temperatures drop and snow begins to fall, CTA’s employees are among the true superheroes of the Chicago region. Many of the hardworking men and women of our great agency have worked overnight and throughout the day to ensure that our riders have had smooth rides.

The Bus Priority Corridor Study is a major next step toward implementation of the Better Streets for Buses Plan—a framework developed by CTA and CDOT to enhance the bus riding experience. We're exploring ways to improve bus lanes, sidewalks, and signals.

On October 31, 1993, CTA opened a new 'L' line from the Loop to Midway-the first completely new 'L' line since the Dan Ryan Line (today's South Side Red Line) opened in 1969. 🍊

Bus lanes and bus stops are for buses. Bike lanes are for bikes. Keeping them clear is essential to ensuring everyone in Chicago gets where they need to go safely and on time.

This morning, CTA riders are enjoying a smoother ride through the Loop—a result of significant, targeted track maintenance work completed by CTA crews this weekend.

Thanks for your patience as we continue this weekend's work In the Loop. Our crews are conducting a massive symphony of essential track work and other infrastructure improvements and the concert is in full swing!

This weekend, our crews will be replacing critical track switching equipment at the Tower 18 junction, which will require the temporary suspension of Loop Elevated rail service along the Brown, Green, Orange and Pink lines in the downtown area.

On Thursday, October 9th, we reached our highest ridership day since the pandemic with 1.168 MILLION rides! 🙌

CTA Fire Marshals, Mike Lopina and Tim Taylor, along with Emergency Preparedness Officer, Tom Bak, presented CSA Nathaniel Hall with a Certificate of Appreciation and challenge coin for his actions taken to extinguish a rubbish fire at the Chicago Red Line stop in the early morning of September 20.

Keep bus lanes and bus stops clear! CTA buses equipped with Automated Bus Lane Enforcement technology will now issue warnings and tickets via mail to vehicles parked in bus lanes, bike lanes, and bus stops as part of the City of Chicago's Smart Streets pilot.

Starting October 15, six CTA buses will operate with Automated Bus Lane Enforcement systems as part of the City of Chicago’s Smart Streets pilot.

The Racine Blue Line's main stationhouse has officially reopened! Originally constructed in 1958, the main stationhouse was completely rebuilt to accommodate a new elevator, a new ADA accessible ramp from the stationhouse to the platform, new stairs and an extension of the platform.
