Some people think urbanism is all about making cities more walkable but it’s not Urbanism is about making cities better places to live. Which means improving the amenities and resources people have access to as well as making sure people of all walks of life can afford to live in our cities.

conservative urbanist is an oxymoron If you aren’t going to accept people of all backgrounds in your city then you’re not going to make your city a good place to live.

The people who claim transit is dangerous are the same people who cut off 3 lanes of traffic than park in the bike lane.

Americans are so carbrained that the idea of changing street space to not serve only cars is an attack on their freedom of movement.

Just want to remind everyone that most car trips in America are under 6 miles. While lacking public transit is an issue, the bigger problem is our atrocious zoning.

There’s this weird myth that just building more housing will lower rents The problem with that line of thinking is that it assumes renters will want to compete with eachother and not collude on rental prices

From the Portland neighborhood that every right wing grifter uses for their propaganda. So dangerous that families are walking with their kids! And commuters are heading home from work! Scary stuff!

How did Portland and Minneapolis start getting people to cycle more? Simple! They utilized modal filters and created neighborhood greenways. Not only prioritizing pedestrians and bikes but also reducing rat running on side streets. More cities need modal filters!

We in America are often taught that insane reactionary ideology is just the standard. While most of the time we think of the depraved evil doings of groups like ICE or the lack of social safety nets we have. Car dependency is another one of these reactionary ideals.

This week from Today the 29th to the 5th is the annual week without driving. It’s a really great experience to see how not driving is in your community and i highly recommend trying it out to see how easy (or how difficult) it is in your community.

We know that transit is a lot safer than driving no matter how you slice it, and cities built to encourage transit trips see far less people dying on their streets. Making transit faster and more reliable has to be a part of the work to get Portland to zero traffic deaths.

Cities are for the people that live there! For decades we have designed and destroyed our cities for commuters. We cannot continue to double down on building for people only coming to work in our cities. We have to reorient our cities around those who live and work here!
