This isn’t a blanket endorsement of church-run facilities, but an indictment of the failure of government at all levels and a widespread desire on the part of citizens to pretend that they have the right to never be reminded that people in desperate need exist.

Every time someone tells me that if the church-run emergency homeless shelters in my county shut down it would be fine because a secular organization would step up to take their place it makes me want to tear my hair out. We have a shortage of shelter beds and people sleep outside every night.
