It is Love that we're seeing from the good people in MN, and all over this sick and beleaguered nation right now, in those streets, out in the cold. There is no greater love than to love your neighbor... it's love as a verb. And one day, maybe not in our time, but if we do the work... one day...

Say Her Name is specifically for Black women AND as a Black woman, I honor Renee Nicole Good's sacrifice. There is no greater love than to love your neighbor as yourself - in my faith, that is quite literally proof of "loving God." And it was Love that got Renee, her wife, and their doggo to stop.

And we are not "centering whiteness" by honoring folks like John Brown or Viola Liuzzo. They counted the cost and laid down their lives for the struggle just like one of my great-grandfathers did. This is why we need A People's History of Humanity (Zinn) instead of the propaganda and lies.

I have always told my white students that they can acknowledge the harm that white supremacy has done, and choose to repair that harm, but I've advised them not to stay there. You do have some fierce AF ancestors, too. It's just that we don't learn about them or what we learn is lies *on purpose.*

Even in the depths of colonialism, genocide, enslavement, ethnic cleansing & holocaust, there have been white folks all over who have refused and resisted white supremacy. We get to choose which ancestors we honor. One of my ancestors was an enslaver who sold my foremother. *I don't claim his ass.*

Respectfully, I am going to whisper to some of our white comrades a truth that should be more widely known: You definitely have some ancestors to be proud of, ancestors who refused white supremacy, and poured out their lives in many of these struggles over time. Time to claim your true history.

However this plays out we're still looking at a situation where those soldiers are just as likely to hurt civilians as they are help them, but at minimum there's an understanding of his *personal* stakes now.

Yelling at people works.

When you ask rich people to envision a world with no poverty you are asking them to envision a world where nobody has any motivation to clean their toilets for them, make their dinner for them, or drive them around all day. That’s not a world they want to live in.

You know people are unpopular when corporate brands come along to personally disavow any connection.

And note that I didn’t say “yet.” Resistance is never futile. The most oppressive governments can fail or be overthrown. All power is based (in part) on the consent of others. That consent can be withdrawn at any time.

Cynicism is complicity. The Trump administration doesn’t have the power they claim to have. And anyone insisting they’re all powerful or that resistance is futile is manufacturing consent for the kind of power Trump actually doesn’t have.
