This approach, by both governments and university managers, is short-termist in the extreme. Even if "growth" is your overriding goal (and why should it be?), you destroy long-term growth by defunding deep and fundamental research in favour of work that might produce immediate bucks.

Bonanza for broadband companies. UK Govt, at the behest of companies, considers ending Freeview TV in 2034. You will need to pay £400 a year for broadband link (today's price) + TV licence to watch TV. Many areas have poor signal. Broadband price increases exceed rate of inflation. Say NO.

This happened to one of my parents. They had Covid psychosis after their second infection. They had visual and auditory hallucinations and vivid night terrors for over a year. This virus was never mild.

A friend of mine recently totalled her car, rolling it twice. She’s been bi-polar after several infections, and can’t remember how she had the accident. Black out? Fell asleep? Single car accident - lucky to walk away. Lucky no one else involved.
