I had to go check if this story was an onion spoof. Apparently not. I do despair.

When you pair this with the rates capping that the government has proposed, this will significantly impact the ability of councils to impose environmental or other limitations on private property rights. Massive.

It astounds me that a government hasn't followed up the insulation subsidies that NZ had for a long time with a solar subsidy scheme. The economies of scale would reduce the price drastically, it would help with the cost of living, would make supply resilient, and help eliminate fossil fuels.

The Zero Carbon Act was a significant step forward in Aotearoa's obligations to respond to the threat of climate change. The non-parliamentary drivers of the Act, Generation Zero, particularly focused on how to make the legislation survive elections and changes of government. It's very moderate.
