A lot of staunch activists come face to face with a wall of public sector inertia and "oh no, Minister, it's much more complicated than that, these things take time" and because they think, well, these guys must know what they're talking about, the handbrake goes on and never comes off

There are a lot of wonderful, passionate people on the centre/left in AoNZ who sincerely think once you get into office, you *have* to be more moderate, less outspoken, govern The Proper Way, and that's one reason (out of many) the 2017-2023 govts didn't achieve as much change as we all hoped for

During the first lockdown, we totally pulled our hospo business to bits, physically and financially. It it could be cleaned or reviewed, it was. Thriving buisness so we'd never given the food/drinks split thing a lot of thought: was amazing how much alcohol was covering the actual cost of meals...

The truth is the mark up on drinks is always more substantial than the mark up on food, that is how the majority make money - get them in the door with the door milk them with the drinks

It should be requirement that any MP's office paid for by Parliamentary Services be accessible from a public place - the effect of this privately issued trespass notice is that all who have received them cannot now visit the MP's office at all (for protest or other reasons) for a 2 year period.
