This kind of rhetoric is corroding our nation’s very soul. There are thorny questions of “just war” but this is clear: no follower of Jesus, indeed no one who believes in any kind of loving God or even simply in humanity can be a cheerleader for “death and destruction” of our fellow man.

Electing Trump the first time could have been seen as an aberration, a quirk of US politics that would not be repeated. But electing him a second time sent a clear signal to the rest of the world that it is imperative to reduce military and economic dependence on the US because it is unstable.
