The two recovered episodes of Doctor Who are absolutely glorious:) The Nightmare Begins, especially, really pulls out all the stops to try to sell an epic space adventure on a 1965 BBC budget. There's a heck of a lot of reacting to things off screen!

That chess ban, too. All cis women and feminists should cheer on trans & enby & intersex folks, and it's crazy that they don't. Just by being themselves, they disrupt the system that says There Are Exactly Two Kinds Of Human Beings And One Of Them Should Get In The Kitchen And Make Me A Sandwich.

Say,
@ryannorth.ca
, now that you're writing both Fantastic 4 and the Flash, and now that Marvel and DC are doing team-ups again, how many lawyers would you need to appease to do a full crossover between the two books?

I had an *incredibly* tedious few days post-Grenfell, trying to identify every domestic block in Cov over a certain number of storeys, get contact details for the freeholder, and survey them about their cladding. And I'd do it all again tomorrow if I had to, because this stuff is fucking important.

A thought of "separating the art from the artist": It's a way to approach the work as an audience member, taking it entirely on its own terms. Just the art, regardless of what the artist might be like. It's not about money. If you buy it and the artist gets paid, you haven't separated shit.

Interesting how right wingers in America are falling “Project Hail Mary” an “anti woke” hit. When, aside from Ryan Gosling, not one single other line of dialogue is spoken by a white male character. True.

To be abundantly clear, my position is not, "You shouldn't like Harry Potter because of Rowling's views" but "You shouldn't give money to Rowling because of Rowling's actions." Watching the new Harry Potter series entails giving money to Rowling.

I don't really think your opinion on Harry Potter has any intrinsic moral valence, but c'mon, you should really not be giving Rowling money or attention if you care at all about trans rights, y'know? She's not an author with bad opinions, she's a full-time political activist who used to write books.

"Content" is something to fill an empty vessel: it repositions your view of the world to align with corporations. Art becomes something disposable, fungible, serving a financial interest and nothing more. The word "artist" is right there; I beg you to claim it and leave "content creator" to molder

I had someone email me about the etymology of malign, benign, malignant, and indignant. It sent me on a ride through malign and benign as different parts of speech, plus malignant but the infrequent "benignant." And then indignant as an orphaned negative/unpaired word without "dignant." (1/?)
