i genuinely hate how internet culture has become so normalized and widespread. i do not want a white house deputy chief of staff saying "it's white boy november" or a secretary of state tweeting that he's "locked in for this banger." grow up.

Chicago’s Memorial Day weekend ends without a shooting homicide for first time in years: CPD
Chicago saw dozens of shootings and several large violent incidents over Memorial Day weekend, even as the city recorded no homicides during the holiday period for the first time in at least a decade.

Sure, the data keeps piling up that Complete Streets are safer for everyone while neutral at worst to the local economy, but has anyone considered the *real* victims here (motorists who need an extra 90 seconds to drive two miles)?

Chicago bike lane construction sparks pushback, fuels political fights
A Southwest Side bike lane fight is about more than just that project. It’s the latest front in a citywide political divide over the future of transportation and safety.

My hottest take is that I don’t care if people use speakers on a ped/bike path. You want to listen to music? Go on with your bad self. Even if you hate the music, they’ll be gone in 10 seconds. Who cares?

This level of addled reasoning is rampant among the ostensibly-educated, and it's a big problem. How does he not see it? The "bubble" is keeping out Nazis. That's the point. Frankly, I'm increasingly convinced that the anti-"bubble" people actually DO want to be around Nazis.

Driving in the city should feel like you're actively asking to borrow some space. Because you are. Only on the limited network of boulevards should some space be pre-allocated for you. The rest of the time you should feel like you're borrowing space from all the people outside. Because you are.

Why can a normal car even reach 137 mph? I'm not a car guy, so maybe there's a mechanical reason I don't understand. But I feel like car speeds should be capped for safety similar to how water heating systems cap temperatures for safety.
