The first new video of 2026 (!) asks, "What happens when the movie we're watching turns its head and watches us back?" An exploration of eye contact, and what connects us to cinema and each other. Please enjoy, share, comment, and all that other good engagement stuff!

I decided a while ago today, but today? Not a shower day. (Shower tomorrow! I feel less human if I’m not showering daily.)

So once again a man started a wildly successful harassment campaign against a female celebrity who didn’t actually do anything and the internet swallowed it full throated, and the whole thing is revealed to be concocted horseshit he can’t muster anything more than “sorry that happened I guess”

Today I learned there is an official music video for the famously short song “Holiday Road.” (The video has nothing to do with NATIONAL LAMPOON’S VACATION, either.)

Rewatching Real Genius (1985) tonight and I have to say it ages pretty well. I’ve been noticing how much 80s nostalgia overlooks how much of the media had themes of anti-war/anti-military industrial complex, especially toward the end of the decade. This movie isn’t even subtle about it.

Péter Magyar victory speech: "We want to make a country where no one is persecuted because they think differently or because someone loves in a different way to others." He may not have campaigned as a liberal. But this is a huge change of direction and rhetoric from Orbán’s anti-LGBTQ+ crusade.

Look, a lot of us are having trouble finding hope or peace or a pause button on the screaming in our head, so schadenfreude is really the only thing we have going for us right now. I think it's nice that every once in a while we can come together to enjoy a very bad person having a very bad day.

I had Bambuza pho after work yesterday, as an early dinner. It's good! It's also way too big to have for lunch, unless I had an hour to eat. (I *can* have Hissho Sushi's ramen for lunch, yay)

If you've never read John M. Ford, start now. If you think he never wrote your favourite genre, think again. Spy thriller? Check. Alt historic fantasy? Check. Hilarious Star Trek novel? Check. 9/11 poem that will never leave you? Check. ... This 2nd sonnet in particular is engraved on my heart.

Weird phenomenon over on Threads, multiple versions of: “I’m a liberal influencer obsessed with Heated Rivalry and I’m terrified of the NYC subway which exists to kill women” - can’t decide if these are foreign bots or grifter trolls or the homophobes who love trading M/M but it’s suspicious
