A genuine dream! Made me a tad emotional when I realised I'd get to do it 🥲

I've been commissioned to make a Xmas special of one of my kids radio shows, so that means our boy on sound,
@iandunphy.bsky.social
, will get to live out the dream of putting sleigh-bells under the theme song

Perhaps, one day, schoolkids will study this squalid little chapter in British terror-panic history. When they do, I hope these two headlines from today are printed side by side, with clear annotation of which individual faced more outrage and condemnation.

Many years ago I witnessed a lunchtime street fight in Limerick City during which a shirtless man ran full pelt down the street and roared HULK HOOOOGINNN as he tried and failed to drop kick one of the combatants.

Hard to find the words without sounding trite, except that I loved watching Jota play—those choppy movement in the box, the crisp finishes, how he brought a winger’s skill set to the striker role. Genuinely, one of the things I was most looking forward to this season was him proving doubters wrong

increasingly thinking that the only way to understand so much "Western" politics right now is how many people have had the dream of a better life beaten out of them, replaced with a vicious desire to see The Other at least brought lower than them: the libidinal politics of laughing at suffering.

I know the material reasons for the rise of fascism. I also think another reason - which doesn’t get talked about as much because it’s embarrassing that humans can be that naive - is that when you are financially comfortable but bored, abstract cruelty can give you a sense of purpose.

Seriously: don't let the memeification of Cage blind you to the fact that he is one of the best and most creative people working in cinema, and certainly one of the last out-of-control lunatics whose lunacy is entirely devoted to making every performance memorable in a different way to the others.
