i am seeing a lot of people upset about this but please remember the actual problem here is capital punishment there is no ethical way to murder someone. most methods of capital punishment are just to make us feel less barbaric, but actually lead to more painful deaths, or failed executions

This is the sort of thing that has been making me worse for decades actually, because I’m extremely hard on myself, so I would beat myself up because things weren’t working. Try to be gentle and forgiving with yourself. Not all good advice might help you right away or at all.
