Binface genuinely ruins Farage’s entire plan, it’s incredible. It turns the whole thing into even more of a circus and it’s unclear Farage is even the center of it. He could lose to Binface - Reform only got 46% last time!

Grading was already the most unpleasant part of teaching before AI. It induces a lot of friction, actually most of the frictions and bad behaviours that happen in a class. Maybe AI will kill the very idea of exams and grading for good. Or maybe universities will turn Italian: oral exams only.

I cannot imagine how depressing it would be to be an honest student in this environment. You’re working all the time, getting decent grades, and meanwhile all your peers are getting perfect scores and spending 15 minutes a day on class.

While there are a LOT of people who created the fiasco in Maine and blaming any one person/group for it exclusively lets people off the hook who shouldn't be, horrible judgement by Schumer and the DSCC is right up there with the horrible judgment shown by national pundits and Maine voters alike.

This 1911 Sanborn Fire Insurance Map was created during a time when Prairie Avenue was lined with opulent mansions. Demolition and redevelopment was shown via the application of a paper correction slip. This map was corrected in 1949 and shows the silhouettes of those lost buildings under the slips.

Architectural design standards are a prime example of something I've observed about bureaucracy. 500 people working together can make a decision that's worse than what any one of the 500 would have decided on their own.

I've found it fascinating that smaller & mid sized cities have generally seen fit to separate their sewer systems. I don't know what the cost-benefit analysis is for storage vs separation; I'd be interested in hearing from sewage experts on this! Fascinating, underappreciated infrastructure.

This is one of the things they legally exist to do, and a state party committee with ~100 people on it is not some tiny smoke-filled room of party bosses. It's not like a convention would produce a meaningfully different result anyway, it's the same set of party activists and minor officials.

When it inevitably comes out that McConnell hasn’t been conscious since his collapse on June 14, let’s all remember that the Senate Majority Leader and Whip said they’d talked to him the day after he got CPR and that he was “engaged” (both of them used that exact word!) and would be back soon.

I have edited a lot of sexual-assault-accusation articles, and this one easily clears every veracity check: contemporaneous emails with her therapist, a boyfriend who knew, a woman she warned—all before Platner ran for office. Good on Politico for nailing it, and on Jenny Racicot for speaking up.

Exclusive: Woman who dated Graham Platner says he sexually assaulted her
The Maine Democrat denied the allegations and said, “Any accusation of non-consensual behavior is categorically untrue.”

I have a pretty dim opinion of people who try to leap to the very peak of politics, running for high federal office or governor or whatever with zero experience. It may seem easy and uncomplicated. It may feel like anyone with the right look or feel can walk right in and do the job. Very few can.

Associating environmentalism with having to go without is what makes it unpopular. Taking away July 4th fireworks is what the bad guy does in a 90s Nickelodeon TV movie. How can you possibly think this issue wins people to your cause?
