Here we go again, another distraction for the EPSTEIN files that will be released this week

Yeah, this probably should have been a post, but, ultimately, I'm simply saying: Trump is lawless. Too many people and institutions are letting him. We don't have to let him. When we don't, we win.

Trump can and will inflict more harm, let's not fool ourselves, but standing up and pushing back works. In a sense, I wrote about this way back in May, when Judge Beryl Howell struck down Trump's order attacking the Perkins Coie law firm.

But, the bottom line is that we rule our government, not the other way around. And Trump is weak. That is why he is lashing out. Jimmy Kimmel is on the air everywhere, DHS admitted wrongdoing in NYC, and everyone is pointing out how weak and embarrassing this Comey indictment is.

This morning's Portland post from Trump, finally, came less than 20 hours after the Supreme Court, yet again, gave Trump still more room to do what he pleases. Telling a tyrant he can take lawless steps, unsurprisingly, will lead that tyrant to take more lawless steps.

The problem is that as the Supreme Court, Congress & other institutions give him more & more room to do what he wants, those "figuring it out" have to change less & less in implementing Trump's tyrant plans. And, for those like Stephen Miller who abhor the rule of law, they then push even further.

This, after all, is the way we've been living, more or less, for the four years and a little more than eight months in which Trump has been president. Trump says something and people figure out how to do it within the structure of our laws and government.

What Trump posted this morning contains such lawless language that it is impossible, in a system of restrained government, to interpret it plainly. If we still exist under our Constitution and laws, and I believe we do, then it will have to be implemented in a way that looks very different.

The continued presence of National Guard in DC, the hundreds remaining in California, and whatever the hell this is are all, independently, reasons why Trump should not be in office. Trump is an essential element of all this, obviously. But that alone is not why we are here.
