People love age-verification because they think it just affects kids. But kids don't have IDs. And there are prohibitions on collecting their data. It's the adults, not the kids, who have to submit a face scan, upload a government ID or provide other personally identifying information.

The Supreme Court has, with an unsigned order, allowed Texas's app store age-verification law to remain in effect. Porn, once again, has the camel's nose under the tent for greater surveillance and censorship of speech.

Arizona is the bellwether for attacks the First Amendment. They're like hackers, pushing forward endless bills that target free speech from different angles, using different tools and justifications, hammering for potential weaknesses to exploit.

Bonkers that Bluesky is doing this. The Texas law does NOT require individual apps like Bluesky to verify age, let alone collect documentation. The law requires app stores — Google, Microsoft, Apple — to verify age independently and to communicate to apps to prevent minor access.
