Can't believe I'm doing this again but: I don't believe the "using AI as a placeholder" excuse studios make. Placeholders are supposed to be bright and ugly so you remember to change it later. "Placeholder AI" is being used so that if they don't remember to change it, it's "good enough" to ship.

It's not good enough. It is built upon the work on non-consenting creators. It's destroying the environment. It's replacing jobs. It's not even saving time/money!! It's. not. good. enough. and other game devs, as well as gamers, should call this practice out. We ALL deserve better.

the bit about how there's been "some pushback" "but i think at this point everyone at the company is more or less okay with it" paints a harrowing picture of a dipshit boss who tells everyone to put more ai art in their powerpoints and they just have to go "haha yeah sure maybe next time"

If you're a vtuber don't use AI chat buddies/mascots. You're perfectly able of being entertaining without having chat ask a plagiarising bot for a quick cheap joke.
