Bottom line is that everyone with power to influence the economy decided that what happened in 2020 was unacceptable. What happened in 2020 was putting the lives/health of workers ahead of corporate profits for a few months. They saw the results of that, and said NEVER AGAIN.

Landlords got in on the scheme and started arbitrarily raising rent up to 50% in one year just because they knew that 1) no one would stop them and 2) raising cost of living for regular people is exactly what corporate/government leaders wanted to happen.

The "inflation" we've been dealing with since 2022 isn't a magical force of nature. It's a direct attack on workers who started doing a LITTLE better post-2020. Powerful ppl who run big business/government decided "we can't let them get used to this or they'll want more."

The Fed saw "essential" workers exercising power to demand better conditions/wages after 2020 and responded by raising interest rates with unprecedented haste and EXPLICITLY stating that the purpose was to take away power from labor by forcing hundreds of thousands of layoffs.

Blackrock/other "investment" firms saw workers getting homes in 2020 and said "we'll buy up all the 'starter homes' to inflate prices." Food producers made less in 2020 bc restaurant business struggled so they decided to make it up by price gouging on groceries like eggs/butter.

The economy we're in now is 100% a result of government/big business backlash to what happened between March 2020 and June 2021. Workers got a little more freedom and secured marginal wage growth and they responded with an all out war on the cost of living. This chart shows the impact of that war:
