From a space for cars to a place for people, in one of my favourite past client cities, Groningen Netherlands. A powerful before-&-after transformation 1960s vs 2021. In recent years one of the cityâs biggest challenges has been where to park all the bikes. Seriously. Imagine having that problem.

Every time we see hundreds of bicycles outside a high school, we no longer despair for the human race. To Dutch people, it barely registers. But this scene represents something profound: freedom and autonomy for young peopleâwithout the stress, cost or danger that comes with needing to drive a car.

No. By my calculations this ÂŁ2.5bn HS2 saving* from reducing speeds** is less than the cost of holding up the project and doing the reset in the first place. It's certainly less than the cost of the design changes at Euston. How embarrassing for everyone involved.
