I’d say there is a good chance Netanyahu and his government are sabotaging whatever framework deal Iran and US manage to agree upon. He burned through decades of political capital in a year for what, mowing the grass?

Vance says that stopping funding for Ukraine is one of his proudest achievements in this administration. I’m watching this stunningly cruel speech from Ukraine, as Russia continues to kills us every day. Just today, they killed 8-year-old boy in Cherkasy and five people in Dnipro.

The FY 2027 NASA budget request hides its science cuts by omitting mission names instead of explicitly zeroing them out. We did the work and found 54 missions cancelled in this proposal. This is another extinction-level event for NASA science. Full list:

This deal was never acceptable to Netanyahu and the Israeli government. They want to do ethnic cleansing in Lebanon and this gets in the way of that. They'll violate the terms to draw the US back in again.

Several years ago, on a whim, I started drawing a map of an eel's life travels as seen by the eel. I figured an eel thinks about its life as a linear journey, rather than a there-and-back again adventure. So I wanted to do a map to reflect this. This morning, on another whim, I finished the map!

Americans should understand that Trump has forward deployed a substantial fraction of US land-based aircraft out in the open within missile range of Iran. This is a war of choice that could wipe out combat power the US might wish it had husbanded for other scenarios.

To clarify: the helicopters are not the implausible part of this proposal. And the rest of the technology is not necessarily impossible, but 2028 is absurd and it's completely unclear why this should take priority over sample return or the dozens of other fully planned activities now on hold.

I cannot stress enough how basic Iranian launchers are. We are talking glorified Chinese flatbed trucks here. Those can be assembled and upgraded in literal car workshops. As if, please ponder this, Iran was actually going for an asymmetric war of attrition and not a bling bling conventional one

Republicans, however, were neither willing to widen their focus nor accepted the prospect of relinquishing power. It was the hour of those on the radical rightwing flank of the party who favored a third option and identified democracy itself as the real problem.
