People have been protesting through the appropriate channels for months, to no effect. They keep losing services due to cuts by the government, directed by this premier. This is an expected escalation. (I’m not condoning anything! But I’m pointing out that people have not felt heard so far.)

I agree that vandalism at protests hurts the cause. That violence is by a minority of people at these rallies. I've never personally felt unsafe at a protest, but also let's not pretend that the cuts that have been made to programs and services are civil behaviour either.
