2026 Contemporary Baseball Era Committee Candidate: Carlos Delgado

"Up River Flashes" Back in 2023, I wanted to photograph the fireworks, but not from the normal location on Chicago Street. So I found this little hole in the trees along the river. I nearly dropped my tripod into the water because the hill was steep, but I really like the uniqueness of the photos.

An aside: Lake freighter traffic in Chicago is a fraction of what it once was (So. Chgo '74) but along the Calumet you can still see them pass through inc Alpena (oldest on the lakes) & the Arthur Anderson. Sometimes tie up close enough to the bridges you can talk to the crew (photos zeolite/gerard)

I think it is increasingly obvious that federal workers in the beltway + inconveniences at airports were the determinants of this shutdown. You can try to spin 5D logic on this but ultimately it was the dems willing to sellout everyone else for that.

Tomorrow is the 50th anniversary of the loss of the Great Lakes freighter, the Edmund Fitzgerald and all its 29 souls, The ship that followed it across Lake Superior, the Arthur M Anderson, was still sailing last year, seen here in Buffalo last November. She spent 2025 in layup.

How about we shut down the government for this very popular and specific goal and then, hear me out, we hold out for like a month and a half and then, ok this part is important, after a watershed election where we ran the table, ONLY THEN, fold and don't get the one thing we said we wanted.

i once thought one of the more explanatory differences was that republicans are threatened by violence from their voters and democrats do not feel threatened by violence at allâbut then the republicans literally tried to kill the democrats in congress and that still didnât change their behavior

one serious problem i see that i am not clear how we solve is, probably 50% of the GOP voting base if not more is really not interested in being part of a democracy anymore. and the only alternative is guys who think democracy means finding common ground with those people

Mitch McConnel's singular political insight is that Presidents get punished for Congressional obstinancy and he used that insight to get the Right an unbreakable majority on the Supreme Court, so of course Chuck Schumer's iteration on it is to proactively let democrats take blame after tangible harm
