perhaps the most egregious thing that happened with the Future Class was when The Game Awards took money from Old Spice in the name of the FC & simply... pocketed it it wasn't used to fund Future Class initiatives, it wasn't used to help lift marginalised developers they just profited from us

When there's multiple instances of bespoke systems being scrapped for 5e and smaller publishers feeling their arms twisted to make full 5e conversions of their games to make money back on it it feels like it's hard to argue against the fact that D&D has done its best to narrow the RPG design space.

This is also why you see a lot of veterans in TTRPGs - they have their military pension and VA as back-ups to their income from freelancing, plus they still often have a day job on top.
