One of these characters was the lead of a very successful MCU film that was called "a promising template for how [Marvel & Disney] can get it right again.” The other was a joke cameo based on a movie that was never actually made. Figuring out which is which from the trailer alone is impossible.

You wouldn’t know it from the breezy script and star power, but Fly Me to the Moon has got to have one of the wildest pitches for a movie that was actually made. “The US government tried to fake the moon landing but it didn’t work.” It’s like they looked at this XKCD and thought, “That’s a movie!”

God I love the PS2 aesthetic. Like, yeah, I am a millennial so I know my monkey-brain is trained to like it, but also I love how it allows for full 3D environments and characters but still uses animation shorthands to convey emotion. It’s a wonderful middle ground.

One thing I'm really proud of with my current Cleave campaign is how political it is. My players spent a good chunk of today's session going into the ins and outs of one candidate over another and how that'll impact their city in the global stage.

Got to playtest this tonight. Got some things to clean up around set up and GM advice, but the moves are doing pretty much exactly what I wanted. They prevent easy solution, raise the tension, and demand the players deal with the results.

I think the hardest part of writing PBTA moves is writing clear triggers, as evidenced by every PBTA game have a move with a simple trigger like, “When you fight someone,” and then three paragraphs in the book explaining when that does and doesn’t apply.

The more I engage with Reddit, the more I’m convinced it’s the worst way to build a community. My theory goes that communities all have x reason for being together (religion, hobby, interest, etc.), but healthy communities use that reason to build connections between the people within it.

I think this update is really bad optics for Paizo, but the actual impact it has on people's ability to access and play -finder content is small. Quinn's right: look beyond the headline, think about how it will actually impact your play and the community, and temper your rage accordingly.

Okay I want to go ahead and share what I've been working on for the One Page RPG Jam 2026: Street Light Brawl - kid gangs fighting in the streets! Inspired by media such as The Outsiders and West Side Story. This PBTA RPG has big drama, big brawls, and big emotions. I'm really excited to share it!

Watched a video on several issues with D&D 5.5e, and the whole time, I kept thinking, “PF2 specifically fixes this. Why are people still playing D&D?” And then the YouTuber went, “Oh and I’ve fixed all these issues with homebrew material you can access on my Patreon,” and I went, “Oh, that’s why.”

RIP Sam Neill. Obviously he leaves behind an incredible legacy of work, but I’m particularly partial to Hunt for the Wilderpeople. He does a fantastic job playing off of Julian Dennison and gives a performance that really elevates the material.

Got a lot of good answers on this thread yesterday, and it got me thinking that the answer here should be on the playbook, which got me excited because I realized I could write "playbook principles" specific to what each playbook wants to do. Been noodling on them this morning.

Mamdani’s Mario Kart stream was so disappointing. He CLAIMS that he wants more efficient transportation for all New Yorkers, and yet he doesn’t even drift to build up a power boost. It’s this kind of hypocrisy that’s losing middle America.

These fanboys annoy me because it’s not like Obsidian wasn’t making modestly-sized RPGs with competing factions and anti-capitalist satire. Like Obsidian’s Fallout RPG is probably going to look a lot like TOW2. So seeing people slack off that game and act like Fallout will be different is wild.

It's never a bad idea to orient players to their role(s) in the game, of course. But the more obvious and/or emergent those roles are in action, the less orientation they demand. That's when you can decide how to use your word budget and pagespace and stuff.

Apocalypse World's GM system ISN'T bounded and directed tightly, so the GM needs agendas and principles to guide them through it. A game with a lighter-weight character system, for instance, or a game where the player has more out of character roles, might call for more out of character guidance.

It so depends on the game, but I don't mean that in a "throw up my hands, who knows" way. Apocalypse World's character system is bounded and directed tightly enough that "your job is to play your character" is all it really needs. (3rd Ed adds "think about your character's goals.")

Question for the PBTA folks: how do you feel about agenda/principles for players, not just the MC/GM? Do you like when games include them? As a player, do they inform your play considerably?

That’s credits on FFVII Remake, an odd game. It basically requires you to have played the original but also nearly everything but the battle system suffers in comparison. Still, FFVII’s strengths still shine through, and I like that it’s familiar and also I don’t know what’ll happen next.

This sucks for obvious reasons (Avowed was great, Eora is the best fantasy setting ever), but also buried in the lede is that Josh Sawyer was working on a new game in a new IP. That, too, appears to be canned so he could reheat some Fallout leftovers.

Cleave update: playing around with a redesign of advanced moves. I understand the design of Advanced moves in Apocalypse World is to bring the game closer to an end, so I had to figure out how I wanted games to end. I think these generally push toward an endgame, but I still need to sit on them.

My impression of Scion so far is that it's like someone looked at Vampire: the Masquerade and went, "Wait what if we made this fun?"

Some context: the best selling game in the world is Minecraft, a game released in 2011, available on mobile and every console, and with a big screen movie adaptation. Its success is lightning in a bottle that no one else has come close to achieving. It would take 25 Minecrafts to achieve this goal.
