KH and di-KH domains are generally recognized as RNA binding domains. However, the most ex-diKH of KHNYN lacks any detectable RNA-binding activity. Despite this it is required for ZAP-mediated antiviral activity.

A preprint for Xmas KHNYN is an essential endoribonuclease for the antiviral protein ZAP which targets RNAs with clustered CpG Dinucleotides. We performed some structural characterization of the N-terminal extended di-KH domain of KHNYN and its close relative N4BP1. www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...
