My students yesterday said that all of their profs should ban gen AI use and insist on in-class, blue book exams/papers. Meanwhile, our entire business school redesigned its curriculum to integrate AI into every class. A nightmare all around.

15 years ago, I said every social media founder should be forced to use and live with the default settings of their platforms. Now I would say that the AI founders should have their tools pointed at their families for a year before they can deploy them elsewhere.

One thing that's important to keep top of mind is that they did this on purpose. The economy was humming, unemployment was at a near-all-time low, and the people running this country went NOPE, CAN'T HAVE THAT.

It’s impossible to have a conversation with anyone that focuses solely on classism and ignores racism. It’s not one or the other. It’s both. Rich people aren’t the reason we don’t have universal healthcare. We don’t have it b/c white people don’t want Black folks to have it, so they elect bigots.

If it’s possible, there’s even less demand for AI than there was for “civic discourse”. Unless you are building war tools for a U.S. government program, new programs better have tremendous unmet student demand. I haven’t seen any evidence of that.
