I’m very fortunate and privileged to no longer need or want the visibility I used to have. I also remember what it was like to blog and tweet in relative obscurity before becoming a “big-ish” account. It was great! Very liberating. My life is a lot more peaceful without even low stakes online drama.

Having said that.. I know that online visibility can translate into material/social benefits for a lucky few. I certainly benefitted a great deal from the audience of millions who read my stuff. But it’s unfortunate that folks who lost visibility want this site to be what the other was 10 years ago.

Re: the never ending social media platform discourse.. I will say as someone who built a pretty decent following in the other place that it’s a lot better in my experience to be known as an actual person and supported in community than it is to be or feel famous as a Twitter avatar.
