I absorbed a ton of von Dänikenism indirectly at a young age via 1970s Doctor Who, and thought it was all super-neat as a kid. I didn't think through the implications (or learn anything about his pretty questionable behavior) until later.

I missed that this happened. For better or (most often) worse, a dude whose last name became a subgenre. Nussbaum's critique here is well-taken. Some of his ideas were sort of neat to incorporate into speculative fiction Nigel Kneale-style, but were pretty unpleasant when applied to real life.

... Please, I'm begging y'all, don't use the term "lost media" to describe anything that's not on a streaming service. It's a term with a distinct meaning and usage. When something was released on DVD, and is readily available in The Usual Locations (TM), it's the exact opposite of "lost."
