No10 spokesman not prepared to criticise anything about Farage speech today. Not his description of "invasion", not his prediction that the UK on brink of civil war, not plans to pay the Taliban or Iran to take back migrants, or indeed to rule out doing so themselves.

I don’t want to be too shrill about this but I think the BBC, ITV and Sky have disgraced themselves in their coverage of the anti-refugee protests. A massive failure of judgement. But now we know the next time a progressive protest “isn’t news” that it’s nothing to do with numbers

Difficult to conceive of a more ill-judged decision then the one the Home Office took here. It is an affront to free speech of a kind which is really indistinguishable from what you'd see in a police state.

Not an original point but worth saying again - there is not a single element in this picture that identifies any of these folks as law enforcement agents. No badges, no uniforms, no vests. Out of context it just looks like a bunch of random guys are kidnapping a mayoral candidate.

What happened at Fort Bragg yesterday is very grave. Boos and catcalls from uniformed Army personnel responding to Trump's goading have almost no precedent in US history and would be unusual in most of Latin America. Listen to the troops boo the free press as Trump calls reporters “the fake news.”

A really chilling implication here is that if Trump keeps doing speeches on military bases, and commanding officers continue to tell soldiers to opt in or out of these events (as they did here), then there will be lists by base and unit of which soldiers support the administration & which don't.

The disparity btwn what’s actually happening in Los Angeles and the way it’s being mischaracterized is one of the biggest stress tests of modern media in recent memory. Botted socials, AI, old clips, declining literacy—it’s like seeing a broken emergency response system hit by a storm.

100% this. Saw there was a blue Labour MP saying he "didn't care" if universities went bankrupt so long as immigration went down. He might want to look at some of the basic demographics of Labour support (and also look at who the largest employers are in large Labour seats).

The DOJ is arguing, on behalf of the President, that the President can scoop up anyone, put them on an airplane, and then no laws apply because no court has jurisdiction. Whether the person is a citizen wouldn't change that because there's no point they could even tell a court they're a citizen.

When the honourable principle of impartial reporting runs up against a president who is a proven liar and conspiracy theorist, you end up actively misleading your audience unless you strongly contextualise the falsehoods. I don't expect activist journalism from the BBC but it's far to demand truth.

I think this is one reason why the BBC's coverage is so poor. It has to bend away from reality for fear of sounding extreme. The truth is that a delusional old man and an insane billionaire are executing an unconstitutional power grab at high speed but saying that sounds hysterical.
