A surprisingly robust, green alternative to plastic packaging was developed using the hemp plant, instead of expensive fossil fuels.

It remains very weird to me that in a world of actually useful technology -- photovoltaic power generation, mRNA vaccines, maglev trains, smart phones, etc -- the tech sector has gone so all-in on bullshit generators and plagiarism machines.

The monetization of US healthcare, particularly in the ED, is a public health crisis. Long wait times for critical, high-need patients are compounded by the ED serving as first and last resort for care among people without adequate insurance. Our hellaciously expensive system does not serve us.

JUST IN: Virginia adopted a new law yesterday to forbid sheriffs & local police from contracting with ICE — if ICE doesn't say it'll follow state laws & agree to let its agents be prosecuted. Everyone seems to agree ICE won't promise that, and that this spells the end of ICE contracts in Virginia.

Virginia Bans ICE Contracts, Unless the Feds Agree to Obey the Law. No One Expects Them to.
A new law does not outright bar local contracts with ICE. But they can continue only if ICE accepts due process rules and state courts having power over its officers.

Living under Donald Trump is like living with an abusive husband whose first move is to isolate you from everyone who loves you. Cut off the support system, poison the relationships, make sure there’s nobody left to run to. Then he can do whatever he wants. That’s exactly what he’s done to America.

A hundred years ago, the U.S. had a nationwide network of short-line railroads that connected most urban and rural communities. By the 1940s, most of it had been dismantled ... by the barons of the auto and oil industries. 😑
