I've seen people trying to defend it today by saying "No, no, I just use it to brainstorm, bounce ideas, I do the actual writing" and with all the kindness in the world I need to tell you: if there is a stage of writing you are not good at, you need to get good, not use the plagiarism machine.

We choose to go to the moon, not because it is easy but because you've seen the other shit this country spends tax money on. At least going to the moon is cool.

I do think it can be frustrating for people to confront the fact that you can do everything right in terms of skill, talent and work and still not succeed because of factors outside of one's own control. But this is just a fact of life, in writing and outside of it. Just do the best work you can.

My real answer is that books are a great way for kids to experience stuff that they’re maybe not emotionally ready for yet—that can stop and put them down at any time, and reading is usually done solo, so each kid can explore stuff at their own time and pace.
