i havent played it but i've heard megaman battle network 2 has a lot of this. Like there's an NPC who just asks the main character "is your mom still breastfeeding you" or something in a rude way and also multiple acts of terrorism happen in the story. rated E

the biggest example that comes to mind for me is that Bionicle Heroes was an FPS in early development but got changed to a TPS later because of this. the DS version remained an FPS

bonus: the gba version wasn't a shooter at all and got a straight E rating implying the mere existence of fantasy guns was enough to bump it up a rating

in the mid 2000s FPS games were arbitrarily given harsher age ratings simply because they were first person shooters

The ESRB is sloppy in the early years. Look at Ghost Babel. "E for Everyone" yay, just ignore drinking whiskey, euphoria by self immolation, characters motivated by enslavery and colonialism related trauma, etc. At least you don't smonk cigs, instead you use a fogger that still drains your health.

I think they partially got past it because it's attached to an optional memo in-game and it wasn't audibly spoken, but like considering it was 1998 and the ESRB was only around for four years at that point I'm surprised that bit just kinda made it past localization
